More govt agencies in Malaysia establish online presence

In Malaysia, an increasing amount of government agencies are now appearing online, according to an assessment programme conducted by the three government agencies, Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC), the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), and the Malaysian Administrative Modernisation and Management Planning Unit (MAMPU).

Findings from the study showed that more government departments were using portals and web sites to promote, provide and obtain feedback on their services, from citizens.

A total of 1133 portals and websites were assessed, an increase from 1055 and 903 in 2005, respectively.

According to MDeC CEO, Dato’ Badlisham Ghazali, the Malaysia had consistently risen up the rankings of a number of international e-government surveys, and that the most recent internal assessment by the three government agencies demonstrated that government agencies in Malaysia have woken up to the opportunity to leverage the internet to engage with the country’s residents and visitors.
