The challenges facing the public sector today are greater than ever, writes Vivek Puthucode, Industry Principal, Public Sector, Australia/New Zealand, SAP Australia.
Public expectations are rising, but public purse strings are being held tighter. Increasing demand for services from citizens at a time of reduced discretionary spend means only one thing — efficiency. For government organisations, this is no longer an aspiration; it is a necessity.
Organisational agility and the ability to collaborate extensively within the agency, between agencies and with the private and not-for-profit sectors for innovation thus becomes the key.
However, consider this: How can organisations be agile if its underlying business applications run on diverse technologies that create silos of information? How can agencies innovate when focus is drawn towards keeping existing systems running?
The annual Government Technology Awards provides a forum to celebrate the work of government agencies that have delivered value through the use of technology.
In particular, SAP has chosen to support and recognise the achievements of organizations who have transformed their businesses through innovation in Business Processes, an area close to our hearts.
Delivering efficient and effective business processes to more than 1,400 government customers in more than 70 countries, our deep experience has gone a long way in enabling governments worldwide deliver collaborative outcomes to public.
Delivering more with less: Sustainable?
Whilst cross agency collaboration is the ultimate goal, enterprise level collaboration remains elusive to many agencies. Business processes hold the key for delivering sustainable efficiency.
The re-use and extension of services enable organisations to drastically reduce cost while increasing the speed of execution. Standardisation enables organisations to deploy a Shared Services model that releases back-office resources to fulfil critical demands in the front office. Streamlined processes supported by business-user centric technology helps capture knowledge and practices otherwise lost with the retiring workforce.
Delivering value through Business Process Platform
SAP’s line of business solutions for the Public Sector deliver global best practice business processes which customers can adopt and extend with ease. The SAP Public Administration solution has been adopted by leading government organisations at all levels across the world to optimise key resources including budgets and personnel and tackle key operational challenges, enabling collaboration across all levels of government.
In addition, SAP’s Business Experts community and over 7000 partners collaborate to provide continuous improvements and extensions to processes and services specific to Public Sector. The power of collaboration within SAP’s ecosystem drives business process developments in response to change and in turn lowers total cost of ownership for customers.
