Education, Green Government

Singapore's polytechnic wins green recognition

The education sector in Singapore has been using technology for environmental purposes with Singapore Polytechnic (SP) clinching top honours at the Singapore Environmental and Social Reporting Awards organised by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.

The efforts of this school include measures to ensure the campus’ own environmental sustainability— done through an Environmental Management Systems (EMS) that uses alternatives or substitution and simulation in place of printed teaching materials.

Along with using e-submission and e-procurement at government websites, this has achieved a 10 per cent paper saving.

Among the objectives set to 2010, SP plans to invest in energy efficient buildings in new developments and to perform an energy audit of the older buildings to ensure energy efficiency.
