Villages in Myanmar get connected

The Myanmar Government has plans to wire the villages to enable citizens to have access to the internet.

The Myanmar Government has plans to wire the villages to enable citizens to have access to the internet.

The government has encouraged the private sector to invest in the cyber village project in order to build access centres in the villages. Batteries or solar energy will be used to provide the power supply in the centres.

According to the Myanmar Posts and Telecommunications, the number of internet users in Myanmar is currently at 300,000, a tremendous increase from 12 users four years ago.

In Maharashtra, India, the Warana Wired Village Project was launched as a first wire village pilot in 1998. It was expected to wire 70 villages of Kolhapur and Sangli district of Maharashtra so as to establish a rural network connecting these villages
